It’s fri.day – remixed (review)

The arrival of a mysterious brand called fri.day made a lot of people scratch their chins. Here are some apparent newcomers, accounts created within the last month, all sharing the surname “Monday” – and teaser pictures and a drool-worthy blog have only increased the hype. When a request for bloggers to send notecards to one of the Mondays, and in turn the first ten would receive a review pack, I (literally) dropped my toast and created the card. And then, a beautiful thing happened.

[10:57] Parvarti Monday gave you fri.day review.pack 1.

I figured you’ll all be bored of seeing the contents of the review packs, so I’ll briefly show you what it contained, but then I’m going to mix them up into four completely different outfits. This will not be short, but there will be lots of pictures of lovely new clothes!

There are two packs. I’ll note here, that the flexibility in its contents is amazing. Everything comes on ALL layers, with options. The trousers have prims for heels and for flats, which I wish more designers did. The sweater comes with rolled sleeves (shown), scrunched sleeves and long sleeves. It’s a really impressive pack.

review pack 1a:

fri. – Basic Pumps (Brown)

fri. - Long Cardi (Cream)

fri. – Basic Cami (teal)

fri. - Trousers (khaki)

review pack 1b;

fri. – Basic Flats (green)

fri. – Vneck Tee (gray)

fri. – Denim Shorts (light wash).

Also, in each pack, there are four colours of a hair style called Cassie. I’ve picked a black, brown, blonde and red to show you the textures.

It’s a beautiful hair style, with wispy strands that I love so much, and gorgeous textures on each and every colour. Shown are; Moody Brown, Anxious Blonde, Emo Black and Dramatic Red. (All of the hair colours are named in adorable ways – Cranky Brown was probably my favourite name, Moody Brown was my favourite colour but it had to fight Anxious Blonde pretty hard). It is worn in all the below outfits.

A further notecard dropped to me after I got the packs, said this:

Our goal for our first collection was to provide a good selection of basic separates that work well together and are also versatile enough that anyone can mix.match our items with their existing wardrobe. We put a lot of effort and care into our creations and hope that you will find them to be of high quality. We’re excited to see what other looks will be created.

Well, that was all I needed. Here are four different looks, using fri.day items. While these outfits are incredibly well done by themselves, I’m one of those dreadful snobs that can’t stand wearing more than one item by a particular designer, because it always feels like the easy option and I’m not a fan of that in general. Here you go!

look one; fri.day item – Basic Cami (teal)

Jacket; Coco – Denim Jacket – Midnight

Skirt; K&Co – Slick Black Highwaisted Skirt

Boots; ETD – Sasha – Viridian

Skin shown in all photos is Laqroki – Claudia. Eyes are Tuli. Lashes are LeLutka Photoshoot II lashes.

So there you have it. Some fri.day, some mix and match, all in all I’m not remotely disappointed by the preview items. I’ve cammed all over them and the quality leaves me still convinced that the Mondays involved in fri.day (that’s going to get confusing…) are alts, of course. Who? Everyone has their theory, and I’m not mentioning mine because I’m sure enough that I’m right. It’s obvious when you think about it. (No, it’s not Armidi 2.0!)

But who, really, cares? I’ve kept an eye on the discussions on plurk – some people toss some theories around, one person appears and says “I HATE THIS BIG BRAND ECONOMY” and I sigh a little. We’re all nerds sitting at our computers in our underwear, knocking back coffee and refreshing SCD, so who are we kidding? The biggest brands on the grid started with a nerd just like us, sitting at their computer in their underwear too. I don’t understand why anyone would penalise someone for doing well.

Kudos, fri.day, whoever you may be, because you’ve not only created a fantastically effective campaign of hype – but you’ve also created quality content to back it up. I’ll be there on Friday, if I can get into what is sure to be a packed sim, and I don’t care if you’re sparkletits911 GossipGirl or Torley Linden.

The fri.day sim opens on Friday August 5th to the members of its inworld group, which is free to join. Open enrollment will be closed prior to the event – search fri.day inworld to join, but do it now!
